The website for the newly-renamed Ventura Improv Company went live on July 25, 2008, and features cutting-edge technology and a fresh new design.

Ventura Improv Company (formerly the Livery Theatre and Ventura Area TheatreSports) debuted its new name and image earlier this year. The theatre’s website at www.venturaimprov.com underwent a major overhaul, with the site’s look and navigation updated for ease of use and to reflect the theatre’s new image.

“The VIC’s rebranding was a good opportunity to make some changes to its online presence,” says Becky Haycox, webmaster and designer for the VIC. “I wanted to create a site that would be easy to navigate, to maintain, and to expand as we expand.”

Haycox, while designing the site, enlisted the help of fellow improvisers Parker Phinney and Paul Tevis to develop the site. Phinney, a high school student and former member of the Chadwick Improvisers, created the framework using WordPress, a content management system. Tevis, who joined the VIC’s performing crew last year, continued the process, finetuning the site’s look and feel and programming aspects of the site.

Visitors to www.venturaimprov.com will now be able to easily search and browse VIC’s full schedule of workshops, shows and special events, and can take advantage of the site’s RSS feeds and calendar-synchronizing abilities.

Upcoming features include online purchasing capability, a special news and notes section, and more interactive features. “We’re proud to be a member of the Ventura community,” Haycox says. “and we want our community site to reflect that.”

About Ventura Improv Company

In 1989, an improviser from the Bay Area TheatreSports™ group came to visit her mother in Santa Paula and while there she put on an improv workshop. At that time, there were a handful of performers doing improv in Ventura, and several of them, including current leaders of the group, Gary Best and Tom Mueller, attended that workshop. The two considered that workshop “a revelation,” and went on to form a local TheatreSports™ league.

In the two decades since then, the group has grown in both size and scope and recently created an exciting new vision and strategic plan that they hope will accelerate the growth of their current audience and the scope of their future offerings.
