Ventura Area TheatreSports™ changes name to “Ventura Improv Company,” adopts new logo
New name is part of big vision recently articulated for local arts group

VENTURA, CA (March 3, 2008) – Ventura Area TheatreSports™/Livery Theatre announced recently that they have officially re-named the nonprofit arts group as “Ventura Improv Company.”

The formal unveiling of the new name and logo will take place at the newly-named theatre at the historic Livery, Saturday, March 22 at 8:00 p.m. in downtown Ventura.

“As an organization ultimately seeking to create an international improvisational center here in Ventura, we first need to build a strong local foundation within the Ventura County region,” said Gary Best, Creative Director of Ventura Improv Company. “The new name and logo, in their simplicity, send a direct message of who we are and eliminates any confusion on the part of potential new audience members.”

In 1989, an improviser from the Bay Area TheatreSports™ group came to visit her mother in Santa Paula and while there she put on an improv workshop. At that time, there were a handful of performers doing improv in Ventura, and several of them, including current leaders of the group, Gary Best and Tom Mueller, attended that workshop. The two considered that workshop “a revelation,” and went on to form a local TheatreSports™ league.

In the two decades since then, the group has grown in both size and scope and recently created an exciting new vision and strategic plan that they hope will accelerate the growth of their current audience and the scope of their future offerings.
